Happy Diwali and Homecoming!!! by Ishita Bhown!!!

MEMBER's BLOG POST -->>

       Miss Ishita Bhown is one of the youngest authoresses today. Her first book- "To Get Her" is already one of the favorite novels of youth. I have been her friend since her book released. I generally don't talk to authors but her humbleness is something that is to be complimented. She has promised to write on our Blog space every month on 13th. It was lucky this time that 13th and Diwali, both landed up on the same time, hence we get to read her perspective on the festival.

Happy Diwali and Homecoming!!!

On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I would convey my heart felt wishes to you and your family. 
I hope all of us are able to enjoy the festivity at home, with family and friends. May Goddess Laxmi bestow all her blessings on each one of us and may all other Gods ensure the much desired peace of mind – loads of good luck, happiness and prosperity!
May you enjoy this special and my favorite festival to the fullest.

I am always fond of Diwali celebrations, not just because of the religious relevance, the traditional “pooja”, the spell bounding decorations in homes and markets, the mouth watering sweets and other dishes, the sparkling crackles, the twinkling rows of diyas, the colorful dresses complimenting the smiling faces,  the fun and excitement of celebrating the festivity ..but also because there is an unmatched joy of re- connecting with my carefree, cosy and comfortable world for 3 days!

It is a week long festival, which is all about happiness- about catching up with the people who are otherwise forgotten in the daily struggle at job or studies...

For those who are lucky enough to stay with their families, Diwali preparations begin well in advance with the dreaded “Diwali ki safai” and soon the excitement to see the city getting involved in celebrations rolls in..from buying diyas, to indoor decorations, from crackers to dresses ,from mega “festive sales” to the shopping carnivals.. from wishing each other on phones and in person to the special meals- Every day of the festive season brings a change to the regular monotonous life.

For the students or working people who stay away from their families, Diwali is mostly about going back to the home. The festival is just an opportunity to relive the happy days, a 5 days vacation to be back to the place where we truly belong- our hometown!!

For me, the countdown began over a month ago, when I booked the tickets to visit my hometown. The long awaiting queues for Tatkal railway tickets, the overpriced flight fares, the rocket high rates for sweets , the markets flooded with gifts, every one planning for leaves well in advance..such is the charm for diwali that it excites every individual! Just as the navratri ended, I was excited to be back home- to be surrounded by the people who know me well, to meet with friends after long time, to walk in the streets that were once very familiar….

It’s a strange feeling to revisit your own city after many days--to see the changes in vicinity-new shops that opened, new roads and over bridges, newer neighbors, new malls, the climate change, even your own house appears a bit different—you are no more accustomed to the electricity switches, or the cutlery, the ghar ka khaana taste or your very own cupboards. Even the water tastes different..:-P  << I know I am getting into too much of details…but the list can go on and on…>>

It is good to be back! Even if it’s only for a few days—its refreshing! It’s great to be treated like a guest, meeting all old friends and chit chatting, getting feedbacks about how fat/ thin I have become..its so true that Ghar ki baat hi kuch or hoti hai!

For those who somehow can not celebrate the festival with their families..their celebrations are a bit different- enjoying with the families of close friends in the unknown city, developing newer bonds while exploring the markets and looking for happiness! Seeing so many smiling people is a reason enough to rejoice and be a part of the festivity!

And so..i love this special occasion that gives an opportunity for everyone to be happy … laugh, talk , eat, play ,pray and party!!
Happy Diwali!!

Have a safe and a prosperous one!

 THANKS.
