Don't turn our Country into a PENDULUM!!!

647th BLOG POST -->>

           Half of India is the victim of power-cut and traffic jam today. Being in another blessed part, I feel as one of the corrupts. :-) The number of abuses that the Northern India would be hurling to the Southern part would be more than the trouble that they are facing. I'm scared, almost. :-) But do we really care when we get electricity for 24-hours continuously? Do we ever think about saving it? Never. We enjoy as much as we can without even thinking once about how can we save the amount of electricity that can be utilized by others in future. Many of us may not be knowing even the reason why more than 10 states of our country is blackened today. For the ignorant part of India, the exclusive report is here: Northern and Eastern power grids failed, thus hundreds of trains came to a halt. The northern and western grids blacked out. The assumption is that it failed to take the excess load. Partial restoration will be done by evening. If some states or areas consume electricity more than the sanctioned strength, then grid failures usually occur,” said power minister Manish Gupta. (Extracted from sites).

           So the basic reason why half of our country is without electricity is over-consumption of the same. And the effects of this power cut off are: In West bengal, train services are badly affected. Hence, lakhs of passengers are stuck at various stations. Hospitals are under danger because of which another lakh of patients are suffering. Railway officials said more than 350 trains were stranded. Mamata Banerjee told reporters that "hundreds" of miners had been trapped in mines because of power cut. (Thanks to Mouthshut team for providing these details through HT and BBC). All these could have been avoided if the electricity would have been saved from our side. No? Yes. But who cares? There are several ways of saving electricity and being a part of making Developing India into a Well-developed India.

            Do not leave your television etc in standby mode. Devices can use up to 90% as much power in standby mode as when they are on, so it is a serious waste of energy when a device is left constantly on standby. Use a microwave to reheat food or to cook small portions. Although a microwave uses a lot of power, it does so over a very short time and so saves energy overall.  Cool cooked food before you put it into the fridge. Do not put uncovered liquids into the fridge. Their evaporation will make the fridge have to work harder. These are some of those tips I found that are not included mainly in our text books. And what we search on Web is not about how to save electricity but how to reduce electricity bills. :-) So for a change, try doing these things. Let the problems mentioned above bid a final good-bye to our country once the situation is settled back.

            In the same way I have seen so many people wasting water unnecessarily. I remember the last time I went to Sai Temple, an uncle of 35-40 years old washed his feet and went without turning off the tap. I said,"Uncle, aapne paani khula chchod diya". Aggressively, he replied,"Beta, Sai ka darbaar hai. Jitna bahaao kabhi kamm nahi hoga". I assumed that he is one of those husbands who is bought to temple by a religious and over pious wife. That reply was a sort of taunt to the devotees of Sai Baba or God, to be precise. But being an atheist and wasting water are two different things. At least that old atheist man should respect water that he gets to drink. I have also noticed some silly people keeping the flush on for all the minutes they are shitting. This is ridiculous. And even if you are done peeing, what's the use of flushing several liters of water? Can't we use a mug to splash water on the pot so that the toilet doesn't stink?

             Electricity, Water and other such resources are wasted by many of us unintentionally because of lack of knowledge. After such incidents, we should at least open our eyes and try to learn the ways of being the part of a better side. I am not a socialist but still I try to save as much resources as I can. By misusing the God gifted favors, we are just ruining our own lives. Already Mumbai was/is facing water shortage. In my own society, water is supplied by tankers almost every alternate days. I want to bring a change but I don't know how to proceed with it. I hope I can bring some at least through this post. To know more, try to search "How to save electricity at home" and "How water can be preserved", you'll get effective links. I am going to do that too. Let's do this together. PLEASE.

  Thanks.
